Medical Coder – Inpatient

Monday to Friday
Shift:
7.30pm to 4.00am IST (Night Shift)

Responsibilities:
- Abstracting from typed and/or handwritten medical records.
- Selecting diagnostic and procedure codes to highest level of specificity.
- Assign the correct principal diagnosis, major comorbidities, and complications, POA indicators, HAC, principal procedure codes, secondary procedure codes and discharge disposition.
- Assign the correct MS-DRG or APR-DRG.
- Send compliant queries to physicians for clarification of information in the medical record.
Qualifications/Criteria:
- Current CIC from AAPC, or CCS from AHIMA.
- Must maintain certification via CEU requirements from AAPC or AHIMA.
- Must maintain membership of your accrediting body to maintain your certification.
- Must have at least 2-3 years recent experience coding hospital/facility inpatient.
- Must have a strong understanding and proficiency of DRG coding.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate computers and general office equipment.
- Education in medical terminology and anatomy/physiology.
- Strong self-motivational skills.
- Detail oriented (attentive to detail).
- Team goal oriented/driven personality.
- Strives to attain increase coding specialty knowledge.
- Good computer software skills.
- Practice Management software and EMR software.
- Fluency in Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Utilization of Codify, 3M, and Optum 360 Coding programs.
- Must be able to code without electronic programs i.e., Coding Books.
